Will you allow me to vent a little?
We've hit obstacles with the home study. Did not realize when we started that we are required to have an FBI background check as well as background checks in every state we've lived in since we were 18.
What does this mean? We need to be fingerprinted. Then we send our prints off to a division of the FBI in Virginia to check them against their national database to make sure we aren't bad people. At the same time, we need to request child abuse clearances from the states of California, Alaska, and Illinois.
Some other things we didn't realize... we have to break down all our monthly expenses for mortgage, utilities, car payment, insurance, phone, cable, food, trash collection, etc.
...we have to know the date Dodd was brought home from the hospital when he was adopted as an infant.
...have we ever considered separating?
...how were we disciplined as children?
And the list goes on.
Ugh.
And we haven't started working with a foreign government yet. As Dodd said, Obama's cabinet was probably not vetted as thoroughly as us! I understand and appreciate that all of this is to protect kids. I just wish we could have been working on these requirements the past 4 months.
This is a big setback. Probably 2 months before we get all this back and assembled.
We were also informed of some setbacks in Ethiopia. But I that is a post for another day.
Ugh, ugh, ugh.
We feel your pain!!! We are in one of the "lucky" states with extra clearances! I've seen people start the process after me and are now on the waitlish!!! I keep reminding myself that the waits just mean God is wanting me to get the right little man...meant for our family. Are you adopting a boy, girl, or sibs? We are waiting for our Dossier to be approved by the state and then we are ready to officially "wait". Check us out at: http://ourjourneyjohn1418.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteDouble ughhhhh!!! That is RIDICULOUS!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe understand your frustration!! We just found out a similar issue and just had to do two more child abuse clearances for me. How long have you been working on things? It's nice to keep up with others who are at the same point in the process as you. Check out our blog at danandtarajean.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteHi, found your blog through the one called "Our Journey" by A and B.... Totally understand your paperwork frustration!! It is such a part of adoption, and it can be so overwhelming to see this mountain of paperwork keeping you from your child. (At least that's how I felt, especially going through the paperwork the first time.) I'm frustrated, too, by the changes to the process in Ethiopia... I feel selfish about it because we're so eager to bring our baby home!! (After our first Ethiopian princess turns 2 in Nov.) and don't want to experience setbacks. At the same time, I in no way want to be a part of an illegal adoption so I totally understand why the changes are being put in place. It just can be discouraging to hear about more steps that will keep us from our baby even longer.
