We are trying to make the most of our setback. All that stands between us and the wait list is 4 background checks. Our local agency moved like lightening and sent the requests for state background checks off the day after I brought the paperwork and releases to the office. Sunday we went to jail to have our fingerprints taken for the FBI. A sheriff's deputy led us through metal detectors, past rows of cells and ushered us into the Booking Office at the Washington County Jail. A delightful place we have not had the opportunity to visit until now. Ha! Dodd's sister was visiting from California and waited patiently for us while we were printed.Someday we will tell our son that Mom, Dad, and Auntie Jo had to go to jail to bring him home!
Wow! That would have been humiliating, I remember when mom had to go through that because of the dog. (the dog bit another dog) I remember it was extremely traumatizing for her. But I have no doubt the reason you are having to go through the process make it MUCH more rewarding and quite a bit less criminal feeling. I am praying for this process to run smoothly for you all. Thanks for keeping us updated. =)
ReplyDeleteThe first time we went to the jail to have a background check done, the woman told us they NEVER have done one in the 18 years she'd worked there... Then I said, "Well, I'm not trying to be rude, but the fact that this child-- our daughter R-- is home proves that is not the case." She wouldn't help us at all. We went back 2 days later, talked to another person, and had the check completed in about 48 hours... I'm glad that you're hanging in there!! Our other checks, the ones we had to send away for, took about 2 months. It is hassle, and they were the only thing keeping us from the waiting list this time, too. You'll be on the list soon!! But I know how you feel.
