The phrase 'love my iPhone' has new meaning today. I kept the phone close most of the day, just in case. The ringtone is set to an African drum beat for AGCI. My coworkers know to HUNT ME DOWN if they hear the drums and I'm not there to answer it. Yes, it's early, but BY GOD, I AM NOT GOING TO MISS THIS CALL.
A realization as we now wait for the call that will change life as we know it.
It doesn't seem completely real. We've waited a really long time. Not just the adoption. My basketball coach used to say it takes doing something 21 times before it becomes a habit. I realized we have been through at least 60 cycles of hope, and then disappointment. This has happened over more years than I care to count. To some extent, we've been conditioned to expect...nothing. Now that we're on the edge of SOMETHING, a REALLY BIG something, it's hard to believe it's actually going to happen. The heart can be sneaky. It feels what it feels, regardless of what the mind tells it sometimes. I guess that's what a habit is. An involuntary reaction. Can I just say, it's about time to kick this habit. Please!
While we wait for the phone to ring, I am so so happy to send our congratulations to Aaron and Whitney on the referral of their 3-1/2 month old Baby A! Whitney informed me with a text message on Thursday they got The Call. A little tradition has started where family #1 calls #2 to tell them they're the new #1. My phone was buzzing on my desk when I got back on Thursday. My eyes went large when I read the news. A&W, we have thoroughly enjoyed walking this road with you. We may be a thousand miles apart, but I have a feeling we are going to know eachother well. We praise God for your son and his blessing to your family! Thank you for your call!
And a quick note to the new Boys Family #2. If you're out there, let us know who you are. I would love to call you to tell you it's your turn.
So now...here we go...anticipation builds. Bring it on ringy dingy. We're ready for ya!
I'm so happy that you're #1! That's wonderful news!

So excited for you! Can definitely relate to the phone love! Mine is never out of arm's reach (or with a trusted phone-sitter)! We have no idea who the families just ahead of us are or whether they've gotten their call--and it's making us CRAZY! Heard a "bunch" of new little faces arrived at Hannah's Hope last week--perhaps ours are in the mix!?!? Hoping paperwork and everything gets in order so all the ones needing mommies and daddies get matched SOON! Congrats on #1!
ReplyDeleteI thought for SURE your referral would come this week!!!!!!!!!! uugh!!
ReplyDeleteHoping this week's the week!! Hang in there! Thinking of you and checking your blog often ;)
