What do you do when you are waiting for the call...

...that will introduce you to the child who will be your son?

You work long hours. You check your phone. You travel to NY. You plant shrubbery. You blog. You check your email. You re-seed the lawn. You check your phone. You look at pictures of nurseries. You spend the night at the animal hospital with your sick cat. You read books on parenting. You check your phone. You talk about your son together as if he were with you now. And you take comfort in the company and thoughtfulness of friends and family.

For instance, here's something that made this week great. Take a look at the super chic t-shirt Whitney made.

It arrived this weekend. I wore it proudly to church on Sunday. Africa is in leopard print and there's a perfect little diamond right on the spot for Addis. I love my t-shirt, especially because it's made by a woman who knows what this wait is all about. Check out Whitney's blog if you would like a diamond crested Africa t-shirt of your own. :)

Then, Dodd and I attended the AGCI family picnic in Wheaton, IL on Saturday. So many little Ethiopians (and Guatemalans, and Americans, and Russians, and more I am sure) running around, it was pretty dreamy. One little guy, Jaxson, almost melted me completely. It was all I could do to resist the urge to swoop him up and squeeze him. At the picnic we were able to meet Kiersten who was our caseworker this spring, a brand new AGCI family who just sent in their paperwork, the Prusts, the Toepplers, and the Hensleys. We met the legendary A&B! Such a blessing to have the company of these families and see so many kids from Hannah's Hope. As we drove home, Dodd said he's glad I've been blogging because these are really great people. Well, yah!

Third, the phone calls from our family and friends have been so appreciated. My mom sent an amazing assortment of gifts for our little guy. I cannot believe all the thought that went into it. I will have to make a post just for that soon.

So that's how we've spent the last week. Hoping, praying, fingers crossed, that we hear the drums before this week is through.

  1. It was so great to meet you at the picnic!!! (and Dodd you are such a closet blogger)I've been thinking a lot about you two this week (and your phone). I meant to chat with you earlier...but we returned home with Grace and the stomach flu, birds in the house, and the list goes on. Everything is great now! If anything, our craziness helps pass the time.

Anyway, it was great to meet you both and I cannot wait for out get togethers...post babies!!!!!
